A bit about us.

Limbo was created whilst being in a period of “limbo” during lockdown last year. I initially started making candles to keep myself busy and soon found it very therapeutic. My friends then convinced me to start selling via Instagram and here we are!

We launched in November 2020 and since then we have continued to create & develop candles/homeware from our little flat in South West London - along with the help of my amazing mum Jayne! Big shout out.

Why all the eco stuff?

After doing my research I soon learnt the do’s & don’ts of candle making, and how dangerous they can be if made wrong.

The majority of high street candles are made from paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is cheap and easy to get hold of in the candle making world, but it is also a very dangerous ingredient and is originally derived from petrol. Paraffin candles emit known carcinogens which are linked to lung cancer & asthma.

I kept wondering why people burn candles in their home when they know nothing about the ingredients used and what it could be emitting into their spaces? I soon learnt it’s because people don’t know any different, nor are the dangers advertised.

The UK currently hold no laws regulating the ingredients in candles. Candle makers legally hold no obligation to let you know what ingredients have been used in your candle; whether that’s the scent, the wax, or any harmful dyes.

Limbo uses 100% eco friendly soy wax, along with an Organic cotton wick. All our candles are handmade, and packaged using only recyclable or biodegradable products.

Our goal is to create safe and environmentally friendly products, whilst sharing our knowledge of the candle world with others.
